“100% natural”, “space” and “paradise”: these are the words holidaymakers here use to describe our region. In Doué-en-Anjou, you are completely free to take your time and recharge your batteries so you can start off the new year on the right foot.
On foot, on horseback, by bicycle or in a canoe, set off to explore a land full of surprises !
The majestic Loire River is at its most expressive in Anjou, with incredibly beautiful scenery along its shoreline. The waymarked Loire by Bike trails meander along the banks of the river and form loops which pass through villages typical of the region. Follow the routes on foot or by bicycle to discover the cliffside caves of Turquant or the wilder side of the Loire near Thoureil.
But nothing comes close to the sensation of absolute peace that comes from paddling down the Loire in a kayak or canoe. And there’s no need to be very sporty to enjoy the excursion! There are many starting points dotting the last wild river of Europe. Spend an hour or a day travelling on the water at your own pace. Come ashore for a picnic with the family as you observe the local wildlife. A worthwhile experience.
Routes for all skill levels
Whether you are an amateur or experienced sportsperson, the Layon Valley boasts many different itineraries to suit your preferences.
A multitude of mountain biking trails criss-cross the hilly Coteaux du Layon territory. In the heart of the wine region, some 50 hiking and cycling paths extend over 20 kilometres from the source of the Layon in Passavant-sur-Layon all the way to the river’s mouth in Chalonnes-sur-Loire.
The region offers splendid panoramic viewpoints overlooking the vineyards of Coteaux du Layon, from which hikers and cyclists can admire scenery in vibrant colours that change with the seasons.
